D.O.N.E.

I don't want to speak too soon, and technically I am not speaking, I am writing, so hopefully that won't count, and I won't jinks Jeff in saying that he is all done with what has become six months of training with the fire department! First it was EMT school, then it was the fire academy, and last it was wild land fire training. I say I don't want to jinks him because after the academy, we both sighed a HUGE sigh of relief that he was all done. Then a few days later Jeff got a letter in the mail from the district informing him that they enrolled him in the wild land fire training and that his attendance was mandatory.
Now Jeff will receive his "red card" which means that if we have any wildfires in our area (like the Dishman Hills fire last year) Jeff could go help fight the fire if the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) takes over control of fighting the fire.

Helping the Homeless

So my Father-in-Law sent this email to us. I thought it was pretty funny, and thought I would post it before my husband had a chance to post it to his opinionated blog. Waaaahhaaaaa.

Recently Michelle Obama went to serve food to the homeless at a government funded soup kitchen .

Cost of a bowl of soup at homeless shelter: zero dollars.

Having Michelle Obama Serve you your soup: zero dollars.

Having a homeless person who is receiving government funded meal while taking a picture of the first lady using his $500 Black Berry cell phone: Priceless

Yeah...they call me skunk!

Tonight at dinner, we (Jeff, Mason, and me) were having a conversation about Mason and all his friends. We asked him what his friends names were. He said something that sounded like a Chinese, baby babble, mumble jumble mix. At this point Jeff looked at me, and I looked at Jeff with of course nothing less than a puzzled, trying not to laugh, kinda look on our faces. Then Mason said, "Yeah, they call me skunk!"

New Moon Trailer

I have to be honest and say that after seeing Twilight and the non-existing editing, I wasn't too excited for New Moon. But, after seeing this trailer, I am excited for November!

Crop Madness

Last night and all of today I was at a 24-Hour Crop. I have never been to one before, and I wasn't sure if I would make it the whole 24 hours, but I did, with just a short, interrupted, less than two hour nap in the wee hours of the morning. I was able to accomplish nine layouts, which was close, but not quite my goal. Some layouts are just one page because it will go with another one pge layout I had finished prior to the crop.
Here are the layouts I was able to get (mostly) done. I am missing titles on some, journaling on most all, and a few embellishments on some.
Sorry, some of the pictures are a bit blurry. Normally my OCD would kick in and I would re-take and re-take and re-take the picture until it was up to my standard, but sadly, the OCD side of me has lost the battle with the overly-tired and don't give a dang side of me.

Memorial Day at Manito

Yesterday we went up to Manito Park with Jeff's Parents, Bother and family, Uncle David and Aunt Robin. We had a picnic lunch, Jeff tossed around the football with the "older" boys, and the kids played on the toys.

Jeff's brother Steve, his wife Tricia, and their girls Ashley, Megan, and (part of) Hannah (behind Megan)

Mason Man on the swings

Cooper going down the slide. Cooper LOVES slides, even ones that are 20+ feet in the air.

Pool Time!

It is finally warn enough of take a dip in the kiddie pool. Mason wouldn't get more than just his feet in and Cooper would only put his hands in. After just a few minutes of splashing each other, they were both done and wanting their towels.

Red Handed

One day I made some popcorn for Mason and Cooper. I left them alone for a few seconds at the table. When I came back, this is what I found.

Installing a Husband

I just got this email from my father-in-law. I thought it was funny, and sadly some of it true.

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0 . In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs , such as NHL 5.0, NFL 3.0 and Golf Clubs 4.1 Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2. 6 simply crashes the system. Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail. What can I do?

Signed, Desperate.

DEAR DESPERATE ,

First, keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system. Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme.html and try to download Tears 6.2 and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update. If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5. However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2..5 ,Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer 6.1 . Please note that Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will download the Farting and Snoring Loudly Beta. Whatever you do, D0 NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.) In addition, please do not attempt to re-install the Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0 . In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend: Cooking 3.0 and Hot Lingerie 7.7.

Good Luck Desperate.

Sportin' it!

Here is what Jeff got me for Mother's Day. I have been complaining that the only hooded sweatshirt that fits me really well is one I got in High School with "Shadle Park" written across the front in BIG BOLD green letters. (I guess it's about time I retire my Shadle sweatshirt)

Reflection

I have been thinking lately that my blog is ALL about Mason and Cooper and never anything about me, what I'm doing, thinking, or feeling. I am usually not one to spill my deepest thoughts and feelings to people. I don't know if anyone cares to read about how I feel, I don't care if you don't and skip past the post. I need to write down how I feel, so I can look back and see how I have progressed. I don't write in a journal, so in a way, this is my journal.
Mother's Day is really great, although for me, not really necessary. I don't need a day to "feel appreciated" I know I am appreciated by my husband and children every day. When the Mason man or super Cooper decide that being respectful to me is way over rated, Jeff is quick to correct them and put them in their place. (in a nice way of course)
The day is more of a day of reflection for me...You could say that I have three moms. My biological mom, my step mom, and my mother-in-law. I can't form the words to explain the love, respect, and gratitude I have for the later two of my moms. As for my biological mom, it has taken me a long time to find anything I could be grateful for with respect to her and our relationship. Let me explain a little bit about that process I have gone through.
My biological mom has not been an active part of my life since I was six. I did live with her for about four years, from eleven to fifteen years of age. During this time of her life, she had left the gospel, began to drink, and was married (in my opinion) to an abusive, controlling, alcoholic man. Those four years of my life were a real eye-opener for me. I didn't like the living conditions, but I desperately wanted a relationship with my mother, so I put up with the constant drinking and fighting that went on between my mother and step-father. Although I never really obtained the relationship I wanted with my mother, I did walk away from that situation with a few very important decisions made:
1) I saw how empty my mother's life was without the gospel. Even though as a young teenager, my testimony of the gospel was not very strong, I knew that the only way I was going to be truly happy was to live the gospel. I decided then that I wanted to live, and be actively involved in the gospel.
2) I was never going to put my children through what I went through when my mom left my dad and her six children. I hated feeling like I would be betraying either parent if I loved the other. I hated splitting my time between parents. I basically hated the whole situation my mother created when she left. So, I decided that when the time came, (hoping that some day it would) to be married, I was going to always put my marriage, myself, and children first. I also decided that if I was ever feeling lonely, overwhelmed, unloved, or any other feelings that may eventually lead me to wanting to leave my marriage, I would speak up and let my future husband know how I was feeling.
3) While living with my mother and step-father I saw them drink (on a daily basis) and fight. (I heard more of the fighting than I saw, because I would usually go to my room once they began to argue.) I saw how alcohol ruined the quality of their lives and marriage. I decided that I didn't need to experiment with alcohol because I knew what the outcome of my life would be if I did.
So even though my mother was not a good example of how I should live my life, the example she did set was one of how I did not want my life to turn out. By seeing how her decisions affected the quality of her life, it helped me make many crucial decisions in my life. For that I am grateful.

"Microwave" lawn

Ahhh, I can now breathe a HUGE sigh of relief. Our back yard is (mostly) finished! For those of you who have not had the pleasure of seeing what our back yard has looked like up until today here you go:
This morning we had TONS of sod delivered. We worked our tails off for six hours. We had the help of Jeff parents, Curtis, who helped with the MANual labor, and Teresa, who help with the boys. Thanks you guys are the B.E.S.T.!
Pretty "microwave" lawn (cuz' it's quick) The back area where we didn't put sod is where we are going to put Mason and Cooper's future swing with either rock, sand, or bark and hopefully a shed some day (in the back left corner).
We thought we got just enough to do the back yard, but as it turned out, (and I'm glad it did) we over calculated and had enough to put sod on the south side of the house as well. We were originally going to put rock on both sides of the house, but this side gets sun all day so we said why not.
Last weekend, Jeff put together these fabulous garden boxes for me. Aren't they beautiful? Good job Jeffery! Now for the planting!
Last Friday I dug down into our rocky ground so that the frame for Mason and Cooper's dirt/sand box would be level with the patio. Jeff's dad helped me nail together the frame and set it into place.

The Firefighter Strikes Again

Here is the latest and greatest from the Borders Production Studio! I must say I had nothing to do with this one. I didn't even know they were making another movie until I heard Jeff say to Mason "OK knock down the door with your ax".

Rock Climber

A few months ago we were at REI and Mason saw some young kid (probably 10 years old) learning how to rock climb on the rock wall. Mason was so fascinated with the wall, the harness system, the "spotter", well, just about everything. He asked me TONS of questions, and he refused to leave. Ever since then, he has been tying his belts together to make a rope and has been hooking his make-shift rope to his bed and then climbing up his bed.
Not a bad knot, eh?
